Design Brief

The architect approached Ackworth House for assistance with the design and engineering of a bespoke staircase. Key requirements included:

  • A steel stringer concealed within the wall.
  • Steel tread supports encased with American Oak mitred box treads.
  • Glass balustrade with powder-coated capping rail and fixing discs.
  • Matching powder-coated handrail and brackets attached to the wall.
  • The chosen design was the "Suspendo" from the Ascendo Stairs range.

Our Process

  1. Initial Consultation and Design Planning
    • Our team met with the architect and builder to discuss the project requirements and to understand the specific design and structural needs.
  2. Engineering and Council Consent
    • We prepared a PS1 (Producer Statement) to ensure the staircase design complied with local building codes and structural requirements. This document was submitted to the council for consent.
  3. Collaboration with Builder
    • Close collaboration with the builder was crucial to align the staircase installation with the overall construction timeline and requirements.
  4. Manufacture and Installation
    • The steel stringer was meticulously concealed within the wall, providing the necessary structural support.
    • Steel tread supports were encased with high-quality American Oak mitred box treads, enhancing the visual appeal.
    • The glass balustrade was installed with precision, using powder-coated capping rail and fixing discs to secure it in place. The matching handrail and brackets were then attached to the wall, ensuring both safety and design coherence.
